Eight arrested for staging fake roadblocks
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said the suspects were arrested following intelligence information surrounding an illegal roadblock that had been staged.
Police have arrested eight suspects in Mbarara for staging fake roadblocks.
The suspects include Muwonge Nooh, Ukasha Kiyonga, Kakumu Dominic, Nsimire Kennedy, Mukundane Darias, Namanya Charles, Lubega frank and Mugonza Akimu Bihare.
According to the Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the suspects were arrested following intelligence information surrounding an illegal roadblock that had been staged where Dr Mugume Dickson was robbed of a laptop, two mobile phones, a bag with personal belongings and many items among others.
Enanga said Mugume found these gang members when they had blocked one of the roads to his home.
When he tried to manoeuvre, other gang members jumped out of the nearby bush with machetes and threatened to injure him.
“So, we managed to track them down using our intelligence and we recovered exhibits such as pangas they had hidden in the ceiling of their criminal hub.
We got them with several sim cards of stolen mobile phones, they had a motorcycle Bajaj UEW 139D,” he said.
Enanga noted that this operation was very successful. Most hardened criminals are looking at armed robbery as a way of survival, and among these are repeat offenders.
Police pledge to continue these operations so as to arrest high-profile criminals participating in aggravated robberies.
