Electoral Commission sets January 27 for parliamentary repeat elections in suspended constituencies
The repeat elections come as Uganda concludes its broader electoral season, with attention now turning to resolving outstanding electoral processes in areas affected by disruptions during the initial polls.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as the polling date for parliamentary elections in constituencies where voting was previously suspended.
In a press release issued on January 23, the Commission said the elections will be held for the position of Directly-Elected Member of Parliament in Kibanda North Constituency in Kiryandongo District, Ibanda Municipality in Ibanda District, and parts of Ajuri County Constituency in Alebtong District .
According to the EC, voting in Ajuri County will take place in 18 polling stations located in the parishes of Awori, Acede, Ojul and Owalo, where the earlier polls were suspended. Polling in Kibanda North and Ibanda Municipality will cover all designated polling stations within the constituencies .
Polling is scheduled to begin at 7:00am and close at 4:00pm, after which vote counting and declaration of results will be conducted at the respective polling stations.
The Commission has encouraged political parties and independent candidates to deploy a maximum of two polling agents per station to observe the exercise.
The announcement was signed by Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, who reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to conducting regular, free and fair elections in accordance with the law .
