Examination cheats remanded by Masaka high court

A total of 1, 280, 132 candidates registered for all the three sets of examinations. UNEB said it establish how many of those who registered actually sat for the examinations.

Masaka High Court Chief Magistrate, Her Worship Justice Sylvia Nvanungi, has remanded three suspects of examination malpractice to Saza Prison, Masaka Prison till December 19, 2022.

The suspects are Kintu Robert, of Bright Grammar Primary school, Masaka,  Twongereirwe Wenecelaus , a teacher of  Uganda Matyrs Primary school Katwe, Masaka and  Atukwase Vincent, Mbarara Junior School, who scouted in Masaka, at Sumaya day and Boarding.

The suspects are charged with unauthorized possession of examination materials under section 25 of the UNEB Act, 2021. They are alleged to have committed the offence between November 8th – 9th, 2022 during the conduct of Primary Seven examinations (PLE)

According to the UNEB Act 2021, the offence carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment or a fine of 20 million shillings or both.

On 12th December 2022, Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) announced that all three sets of the 2022 National Examinations had ended successfully, with the last set of candidates writing their papers on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The examinations started on 14th October 2022 with the briefing og Senior Four candidates. This was followed by Primary Seven from 7th to 9th November and finally, the Senior Six examination that was conducted from 18th November to 9th December 2022.
