Health minister praises Kabale Regional Referral Hospital after night inspection
The inspection, carried out at about 2:30am, found health workers on duty, a clean hospital environment, and patients expressing satisfaction with the services provided.
The Ministry of Health has praised the management of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital following an unannounced inspection conducted in the early hours of Sunday, August 2.

The official who conducted the visit said they were impressed by the level of service delivery at the facility, noting that even for services that attract official charges, such as CT scans, vulnerable patients are exempted from payment.
“I have just concluded an on-spot tour of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. I am impressed with the work there. Health workers were on duty, the hospital is clean, and all patients I randomly talked to are happy with the services,” the official said.
However, the inspection identified challenges affecting service delivery, including a broken X-ray machine and one of the hospital’s three oxygen plants, which have reportedly remained out of service for about one month.
The official called on Ministry of Health technical teams to urgently address the equipment failures to ensure patients continue receiving timely care.
The Hospital Director, Dr Allen Namutebi, was commended for the leadership and improvements at the facility, with a call for other referral hospitals, including Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, to benchmark on Kabale’s practices.
Kabale Regional Referral Hospital serves patients from across the Kigezi sub-region and is one of the key public health facilities in southwestern Uganda.
