Independent MPs rally behind NRM as Among builds parliamentary alliance

Among, who also serves as the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), guided the delegation as they formally expressed their willingness to work with the ruling party in advancing national priorities and development programs.

The Rt. Hon. Anita Among has led another group of independent Members-elect to the headquarters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), signaling growing political alignment ahead of the 12th Parliament.

Among, who also serves as the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), guided the delegation as they formally expressed their willingness to work with the ruling party in advancing national priorities and development programs.

The latest group adds to a rising number of independents choosing to collaborate with the NRM, bringing the total to 62 Members of Parliament. The development points to a significant shift toward cooperation between independent legislators and the ruling party.

Political analysts say the move could consolidate the NRM’s influence in Parliament, easing the passage of key legislation and strengthening the government’s policy agenda. It also reflects a broader trend of pragmatic alliances, where independent MPs align with the ruling party to maximize their impact on national development.

Speaker Among’s role in mobilizing the independents has been seen as central to building consensus and fostering a cooperative legislative environment. Her efforts are being interpreted as part of a strategy to ensure stability and efficiency in parliamentary business.

As Uganda prepares for the next parliamentary term, the growing collaboration between independent MPs and the NRM is expected to shape legislative dynamics and reinforce the government’s ability to implement its programs.
