ZURICH — FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing renewed calls for his resignation after reports emerged alleging that a woman with whom he was linked in an alleged affair received a financial settlement from UEFA after leaving the organisation.

An investigation by the Telegraph reported that the woman was paid tens of thousands of pounds after agreeing to depart UEFA following the alleged relationship with Infantino, who was serving as UEFA’s secretary general at the time.

Infantino has not admitted any wrongdoing, but the allegations have intensified scrutiny of his leadership at world football’s governing body.

The latest controversy comes as Infantino was already under pressure from some football stakeholders following criticism of his proposed plans to sell future World Cup commercial rights in a deal reportedly worth £15 billion.
