Jose Chameleone’s son Abba sparks debate with criticism of family’s role in his father’s health crisis
Chameleone’s hospitalization last week, reportedly due to acute pancreatitis, sparked widespread concern among his fans and family.
Abba Marcus Mayanja, the son of renowned Ugandan singer Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, has ignited public debate after openly criticizing his grandparents and his father’s close friends for their alleged neglect and lack of responsibility.
In a TikTok video shared shortly after Chameleone was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis, Abba expressed frustration over his father’s condition, accusing his grandparents of failing to provide the guidance and support needed for Chameleone’s well-being.
“Never in my life have I seen such unconcerned parents that are so careless about their children’s well-being. In this case, I’m talking about my father’s parents,” Abba said in the video. He added, “No one in the country would know who the Mayanjas are if it wasn’t for my father. Yet, they don’t care enough to ensure he’s in good health.”
Chameleone’s hospitalization last week, reportedly due to acute pancreatitis, sparked widespread concern among his fans and family.
Acute pancreatitis is commonly linked to prolonged heavy alcohol consumption and can have severe complications.
Sources have also suggested that Chameleone may be battling liver disease, further heightening concerns about his health.
Abba didn’t stop at criticizing his grandparents; he also took aim at his father’s friends, accusing them of exploiting Chameleone’s fame and finances rather than prioritizing his health.
“The people around my father do not care about his well-being. If his friends were truly his friends, my father wouldn’t be in this circumstance. They just care about the monetary value,” he stated.
Abba also blamed his grandparents for the tragic deaths of his uncles Emmanuel Mayanja (AK47) and Humphrey Mayanja, claiming their neglect and irresponsibility contributed to the family’s struggles.
Abba’s remarks are not the first time the Mayanja family has faced scrutiny. The family has been criticized over the years for issues related to drinking, violence, and public altercations.
In 2022, Chameleone’s ex-wife, Daniella Atim, called out her former mother-in-law, accusing her of enabling her sons’ problematic behavior and shielding them from accountability. Daniella, who shares four children with Chameleone, urged her ex-mother-in-law to take responsibility as a parent and instill better values in her sons.
Abba’s bold statements have divided public opinion. On social media, some users applauded him for speaking out and shedding light on issues often kept private.
“Abba is brave. Gen Z always speaks their mind, and this might be what the family needs to hear,” one user commented.
Another added, “It takes courage to call out your family publicly. Maybe this will force them to reflect and change.”
However, others condemned Abba for airing private family matters online, accusing him of disrespecting his elders.
“Family issues should be dealt with privately. Abba is out of line for disrespecting his grandparents like this,” one critic wrote.
Another user commented, “There’s a better way to express concern without dragging the whole family into public ridicule.”
As the Mayanja family continues to grapple with Chameleone’s health crisis, Abba’s remarks have sparked necessary conversations about family accountability, substance abuse, and generational dynamics.
Whether Abba’s public criticism will lead to meaningful change or further deepen family rifts remains to be seen. For now, his words have shone a light on the challenges behind the fame of one of Uganda’s most iconic families.
