Kagame’s terror activities & backing of M23 rebels won’t be tolerated – DR Congo
Katembwe said DRC remains determined to put an end to the criminal and terrorist activities of the Rwanda-backed M23 and to defend its territorial integrity as well as its national sovereignty.
The Minister in charge of Communication and Media in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, Tuesday said his government will not tolerate the actions of Rwanda and President Paul Kagame.
The DRC government led by President Felix Tshisekedi accuses Kagame and Rwanda of supporting and arming the M23 rebel group operating in the eastern part the newest member of the East African Community.
Reacting to a recent press release issued by the Kigali government, Katembwe said on Tuesday that Kagame’s strategy is to permanently interfere in the internal affairs of DRC to maintain a climate of terror to enable widespread looting of the eastern part of DRC.
“Rwanda’s position contradicts its commitments made in the various peace processes in Nairobi, Luanda, and in New York with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, where all parties agreed to put an end to the armed group, in particular the M23,” Katembwe said on Tuesday in a press release.
Katembwe said DRC remains determined to put an end to the criminal and terrorist activities of the Rwanda-backed M23 and to defend its territorial integrity as well as its national sovereignty.
“Finally, the DRC calls on the international community to bear witness to the actions of Rwanda and reminds the world that peace and stability in the East of the DRC are essential for the proper organization of elections in 2023,” Katembwe concluded with an appeal.
