Ministry of Health trains Kigezi media practitioners on public health emergency communication

The orientation meeting aimed at equipping participants with accurate information and effective communication skills to support response efforts during health emergencies, including outbreaks such as Ebola Virus Disease.

The Ministry of Health, with support from UNICEF, has trained media practitioners and health educators in the Kigezi Region on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) to strengthen public health emergency preparedness and response.

The orientation meeting aimed at equipping participants with accurate information and effective communication skills to support response efforts during health emergencies, including outbreaks such as Ebola Virus Disease.

During the engagement, participants were guided on the importance of timely and accurate reporting of health issues, promoting community awareness, and preparing the public to respond appropriately during disease outbreaks.

The training also focused on tackling misinformation and disinformation by encouraging the use of credible sources of health information to build public trust.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that collaboration with the media and community educators remains vital in ensuring communities receive reliable information and take necessary preventive measures during public health emergencies.

The RCCE initiative is part of broader efforts by the health sector to enhance communication systems and strengthen community involvement in disease prevention and control.
