Mother’s attempt to burn her children to death fails
Namubiru, according to Police, attempted to set fire to her property with the intent to kill her children, aged seven, six, and two years.
Police in Kabalagala has begun an investigation into an incident where a housewife Jennifer Namubiru allegedly attempted to murder her three children.
Namubiru, according to Police, attempted to set fire to her property with the intent to kill her children, aged seven, six, and two years.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said the children were fortunately unharmed, as neighbours responded to their cries for help and extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby homes.
He added that the local leaders had previously addressed the domestic violence matter, and the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) Kisugu was already investigating the situation.
“The incident occurred on August 13, 2023 in the Upper Lake Side Zone of Kisugu Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala. Preliminary investigations suggest that Namubiru had been in a violent relationship with her husband, Moses Bululu,” he said.
Owoyesigyire further highlighted that the police promptly responded to the report of the incident and worked alongside the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services from Kabalagala, to ensure the safety of the victims and prevent further damage.
“Community leaders and the landlady have been interviewed to gather more information about the incident. It has been determined that Namubiru gathered household belongings, started the fire, and locked her children inside the burning house, apparently with the intention of ending their lives,” he explained.
Police Division is actively investigating the case and making efforts to locate and apprehend Namubiru for prosecution.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
