Museveni’s son, Gen Muhoozi, trashes NRM; says it doesn’t represent Ugandans

Even when he publically continues to engage in illegal political talk, Muhoozi hasn’t been punished or reprimandedby the army or called to book by his father, the president and Commander in Chief of the army.

President Yoweri Museveni’s soldier son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, believes that the ruling political party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), doesn’t represent the people Uganda and for that matter, Muhoozi is listening to the outcry of Ugandans calling for change.

“I am listening to the outcry of our people for change. I am with the people! Whatever NRM has become certainly does NOT represent the people of Uganda,” Muhozi tweeted midday Saturday, 3rd December 2022.

In another tweet targeted at NRM, Muhoozi said he believes in Jesus Christ and his father, President Museveni but not the NRM, his father’s beloved political party that has ruled Uganda since 1986.

“I believe in Jesus Christ and I believe in my father, General @KagutaMuseveni. I certainly do not believe in NRM. In Marxist terms it is probably the most reactionary organisation in the country,” he tweeted Friday evening.

It is not openly clear what he meant by ‘listening to the outcry of our people’ but Muhoozi has in the recent past hinted at the possibility of becoming president of Uganda.

This insinuation caused heated public debate and within the army. By law, as a serving army man, Muhoozi is not supposed to be engaging in politics. For him to do that, he has to resign from the army first.

Even when he publically continues to engage in illegal political talk, Muhoozi hasn’t been punished or reprimandedby the army or called to book by his father, the president and Commander in Chief of the army.

The silence from the army and the president has made Ugandans believe that Project Muhoozi, which was a wild guess, and speculation that President Museveni was preparing Muhoozi to replace him as president, is coming into life – albeit illegally.
