Police appeals to the public to pick up lost identification documents

Upon his arrest, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations instituted investigations into the circumstances under which the identification documents got into the hands of Hakim Terwane.

Police has called upon the general public and specifically those who may have lost their National IDs, Passports and Driving Permits to come to CID Headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala to cross-check and identify their missing documents.

The call follows an operation conducted by the Nassana police on 24th August 2022 in which 43-year-old Hakim Terwane alias Umaru, a resident of Lubigi, in Nansana Municipality, was found in possession of many people’s identification documents.

According to SSP Claire Nabaka the Deputy Police Spokesperson, the suspect was found with 10,722 National Identity Cards, 68 Ugandan Passports, 237 Ugandan Driving Permits, two Motor vehicle number plates, warrant cards and ATM cards for different banks among other documents.

Upon his arrest, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations instituted investigations into the circumstances under which the identification documents got into the hands of Hakim Terwane.

“Currently he is on remand in Budaka prisons for aggravated robbery registered in Kibuku vide ref. CRB 205/2018 where one Katumwebaze Moreen was robbed of her ID, phone, and laptop among others along Tirinyi- Buseeta Road, her ID has since been identified among the recovered items,” she said.

While working with National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Works and Transport, police have been able to thoroughly verify all the documents and confirmed that they are genuine.
