Police blocks NUP leaders from accessing critically sick Ssewanyana

According to Ssenyonyi, preliminary information shows that the legislator has lung issues, cannot walk or stand on his own, is in great pain, and requires specialised medical care.

The police has barred National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders from accessing Allan Ssewanyana, the Member of Parliament (MP) Makindye West, who is bedridden, critically.

“This morning, we visited Mulago Hospital where we went to check on Hon. Allan Ssewanyana who has been admitted there in a critical condition since Friday,” NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu said in a brief message on Social Media platforms.

Adding: “Unfortunately, the police blocked us from accessing him. The continuing repression and persecution of our people is being recorded, and I am sure, justice will be served someday.”

Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, was in the company of NUP’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, NUP spokespersons Joel Ssenyonyi and Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro.

Also present was the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Eria Lukwago, who is the Vice President of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in charge of the Buganda region.

Recent reports have indicated that Ssewanyana is critically ill and was receiving treatment from different prisons’ health facilities. He has since been moved to Mulago to receive better healthcare.

Speaking to KFM, Ssenyonyi said the MP whose health condition has worsened over time was silently sneaked into Mulago from Murchison Bay at Luzira prison.

According to Ssenyonyi, preliminary information shows that the legislator has lung issues, cannot walk or stand on his own, is in great pain, and requires specialised medical care.

Ssenyonyi adds that the hospital room where he is admitted is heavily guarded by security who have denied access to both his family and fellow colleagues.
