PPDA moves to curb procurement mismanagement with launch of contract management system

Turyamye explains that the Authority intends to expand its partnerships with other Civil Society Organizations in various regions, with the objective of getting more foot soldiers for monitoring government procurements, to improve service delivery.

Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) Tuesday launched the new contract monitoring system (CMS) which will enhance competition as well as closing out one of the avenues of malpractices in public procurement.

According to the body, the projects delays and contract variations have been the major challenges to service delivery. However with this new system, there will be enhancement in the monitoring of contracts being undertaken by various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Speaking at the launch of the new contract monitoring system (CMS) at PPDA head offices in Nakasero, Kampala, Benson Turamye, the executive director of PPDA, highlighted that considering the magnitude of project implementation and other requirements by different government agencies, the responsibility of monitoring to ascertain quality, cannot be private.

Turyamye explains that the Authority intends to expand its partnerships with other Civil Society Organizations in various regions, with the objective of getting more foot soldiers for monitoring government procurements, to improve service delivery.

During the launch Turyamye also assured to continue various engagements with the Public Officials and Civil Society under the PPDA- PDE-CSO collaborative Framework, on accountability issues and especially in the fight against corruption.

At the same launch PPDA signed a memorandum of understanding with at least 12 civil society organizations operating across the country, to help track development projects by the government and then forward information on progress made to relevant authorities for immediate action.
