Rubongoya claims investigative blogger Ninye Tabz has been abducted and driven away in ‘drone’
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has alleged that one of its supporters was abducted by unidentified security operatives in Kamwokya, Kampala, on Wednesday.
The party’s Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, said the individual identified as Ninye Tabz was reportedly picked up by men travelling in what opposition supporters commonly refer to as a “drone” — a term used to describe unmarked vans often linked to security operations.
“We’ve just been informed of the abduction of Ninye Tabz from Kamwokya a short while ago. He has been whisked away in a drone. The lawlessness continues,” Rubongoya said in a poast on X.
Details surrounding the incident remained unclear by press time, and it was not immediately known which security agency, if any, was involved in the operation.
The alleged abduction adds to a series of complaints by opposition leaders regarding arrests and detentions of their supporters, particularly during periods of heightened political activity.
Human rights organizations and opposition groups have previously raised concerns over the use of unmarked vehicles in security operations and the detention of suspects without immediate disclosure of their whereabouts.
Security agencies have in the past maintained that arrests are conducted within the law and are often related to ongoing criminal investigations.
The National Unity Platform has called for the immediate disclosure of his whereabouts and demanded that his rights be respected.
The incident comes amid growing political tensions following recent arrests and prosecutions involving several opposition figures, including former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and People’s Front for Freedom leaders.
As of Wednesday evening, neither police nor other security agencies had issued a public statement regarding the alleged arrest or detention.
