The State Minister for Housing and Member of Parliament for Bukono Constituency in Namutumba istrict, Hon. Persis Namuganza, has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his continued support towards the growth and development of the Church in Uganda.

Namuganza made the remarks at Ivukula Archdeaconry in Bukono Constituency during a farewell visit by the Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula, as part of his tour of archdeaconries ahead of his retirement in May next year.

The Minister thanked Bishop Wakula for his service and commitment to the Church, describing him as a leader who served all Christians without discrimination.

“I thank the Bishop for his service to the Church. He has walked with us and has not segregated us,” Namuganza said.

Namuganza, who is also the Vice Chairperson of the Construction Committee of the Central Busoga Diocese Cathedral, told Christians that President Museveni would honour his pledge to support the roofing of the cathedral, a project valued at more than Shs500 million.

She encouraged Christians to continue supporting Church projects and strengthening their faith.

During the function, 100 children were confirmed into the Anglican faith, with Namuganza urging them to uphold Christian values and remain committed to their faith.

Bishop Wakula attributed the achievements registered during his tenure to God’s grace, highlighting the creation of new archdeaconries to improve service delivery and the revitalisation of Busoga University among the milestones achieved.

“I commend those who have been born again in the Church today and urge them to live according to Biblical teachings. I also encourage others to be born again in this Church,” Bishop Wakula said.

The Bishop also presented Bibles to the newly confirmed children and encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s education by providing basic needs, including proper feeding.

“A child cannot learn effectively when they are hungry,” he said.

The Sabadecone Ivukula Archdeaconry head, Ven. Rev. Allan Waako, praised Bishop Wakula for his dedication and commitment to serving the Church, describing him as a father who consistently visited and supported Christians.

He urged future Church leaders to emulate Bishop Wakula’s leadership style and called upon reverends and other Church leaders to uphold his values.

The farewell visit also featured several activities led by Bishop Wakula, including baptisms and the confirmation of children into the Anglican faith.
