Stop fragmenting wealth, Museveni tells people in Cattle Corridor
Cattle corridor districts include Isingiro, Kiruhura, Lyantonde, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Nakasongola, Luwero, Nakaseke, Kiboga, Mubende and Sembabule.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appealed to the people in the Cattle Corridor to stop fragmenting wealth when the owner dies; instead, this wealth should be divided into shares.
The President appealed while officiating at the International Women’s Day in Kiruhura district. He highlighted that the NRM had got the people in the Cattle Corridor out of poverty but they are so determined to go back to this poverty.
He said the practice of physically dividing wealth when the owner dies is myopic.
“People are now leaving in good houses, have solar and water but are in danger of going back to grass-thatched houses because of a lack of education. Today, when the head of a family dies, their children descend on the wealth and divide it up,” the President said.
Museveni says the new war now is to educate these ignorant people in the Cattle Corridor not to physically divide wealth but instead get emigabo (shares).
Giving an example of a house which can’t be divided even if all members want its share; the President noted that the property should be kept together and use the modern method of shares whereby they share profits that come out from the business.
