UNEB hunting for people using Whatsapp to share ‘leaked’ false exam papers
The PLE examinations will commence with a briefing on 7th November before the actual writing of examinations on 8th and 9th November.
Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has once again strongly warned persons contemplating getting involved in any form of examination malpractice saying that they will be dealt with in accordance with the UNEB Act 2021.
According to Dan Odong, the UNEB Executive Director who Friday was briefing the media at Uganda Media Center on the commencement of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) there are WhatsApp groups which have been formed to collect money purportedly to access and supply PLE question papers.
He said security agencies have started investigations and have arrested some of the culprits while others are on the run.
“There may be other desperate persons who might try to circulate what they purport to be PLE papers. Any person found doing so will be dealt with in accordance to section 25 (1) and (4) of the UNEB Act, which provides for a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment upon conviction,” he said.
Odong also noted that invigilators and scouts who negligently allow malpractices to take place under their watch will be dealt with under section 25 (1) (g) which provides for a maximum term of imprisonment of years upon conviction.
Concerning the rumours of leaked PLE examinations before their start, Odong reaffirmed that all that was moving all over social media was false news.
He assured the public that such incidents can never happen since all the papers are safe.
This year’s PLE will be conducted under 139 district monitors, 12,391 scouts, 10,356 chief invigilators, and 33,395 invigilators.
UNEB has registered 832, 810 candidates this year who are to sit their PLE examinations from 14,153 examination centres.
The board confirms that this is an increase of 82,999 (11.1%), from 2020.
Additionally, 61 of these candidates are inmates from Luzira Upper prison school Luzira. 51.9% (432,618) country-wide are females while 48.1% (400,192) are males.
The PLE examinations will commence with a briefing on 7th November before the actual writing of examinations on 8th and 9th November.
