UNEB urges schools to beat registration deadline as over 1.58 million candidates enrol for 2026 national exams
said any registered candidate seeking to change examination centres must first obtain written approval from the Executive Director of UNEB.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has urged schools, parents and education stakeholders to ensure all eligible learners are registered for the 2026 national examinations before the normal registration deadline expires at midnight on Tuesday, June 30.
In a press statement issued on Monday, UNEB warned that no learner should be left out, reminding schools that registration is only considered complete after the required examination fees have been fully paid.
According to the Board, a total of 1,584,519 candidates have so far been registered across the three national examination levels.
Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates account for the largest share, with 910,774 learners, representing 57.4 percent of all registered candidates.
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) candidates stand at 479,681, equivalent to 30.2 percent, while 194,064 candidates, or 12.2 percent, have registered for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
UNEB said the registration fees for the normal registration period remain Shs34,000 for PLE, Shs164,000 for UCE and Shs186,000 for UACE.
The Board noted that once the normal registration window closes on June 30, a late registration period will run from July 1 to July 31, 2026. After that period, no further registration for this year’s examinations will be accepted.
UNEB also issued guidance on the transfer of candidates between examination centres. It said any registered candidate seeking to change examination centres must first obtain written approval from the Executive Director of UNEB.
The Board explained that the school where the candidate was initially registered must submit a letter explaining the reasons for the transfer, while the receiving examination centre must provide a written acceptance confirming its capacity to accommodate the candidate.
All transfers, UNEB emphasized, can only be processed through its registration office.
The examinations body encouraged schools and candidates requiring further clarification to contact UNEB through its official telephone lines or toll-free numbers.
The latest registration figures indicate another high turnout for Uganda’s national examinations, reflecting continued growth in enrolment across primary, secondary and advanced-level education.
