UPDF intelligence officer murdered in Oyam District
Four people, including a boda boda rider who last transported Olanya on his motorcycle on Saturday are in police custody to aid investigation.
Security operatives in Oyam District are mounting investigations surrounding the death of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer who was killed and his body dumped in a swamp near his home at Onea Village, Kamdini Sub-county.
The development was confirmed by the Oyam District Police Commander, Mr Innocent Mubangizi and he identified the deceased as Vincent Olanya, a UPDF intelligence officer who has also been serving as an LCIII chairperson, representing Juma Parish at Kamdini Sub-county council, Oyam District.
According to residents, Olanya’s car was found abandoned about 100 metres away from his home after he was killed on Saturday 4th December 2022 last weekend.
One of the residents, Mr Denis Gony said Olanya’s body was discovered on Sunday morning by a boda boda rider.
Mr Terence Omonya, Kamdini LC3 chairman, suspected that Olanya could have been killed by strangulation.
However l, Oyam DPC Innocent Mubangizi told journalists that they are probing the case as they search for Olanya’s killers.
Mubangizi added that the body was taken to the UPDF Fourth Division headquarters in Gulu District for autopsy.
