Seventh- day Adventist Church engages government over National Cleaning Days, cites Sabbath observance

The Uganda Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has announced that it is engaging the government over the implementation of National Cleaning Days, saying the exercise could affect Sabbath worship for its members.

In a statement dated July 24, 2026, Uganda Union Mission President Pr. Kajoba Samuel said the church supports efforts aimed at promoting a clean and healthy environment but remains committed to observing the Seventh-day Sabbath, which runs from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.

Pr. Kajoba said the church leadership is seeking a solution through dialogue with government while respecting both the national programme and constitutional freedom of worship.

The church has proposed that its members take part in the cleaning exercises on Friday or Sunday instead, depending on an agreement reached with authorities.

He urged members to remain calm, prayerful, and united as discussions continue, encouraging them to respect government authorities while staying faithful to their religious beliefs.
