Mulondo engages traders on tax, trade, and access to Finance

The traders, led by UNATA President Godfrey Katongole, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to present their concerns, proposals and aspirations aimed at strengthening cooperation between Government and the business community.

State Minister for Finance (General Duties), Hon. Cissy Mulondo has engaged traders under the Uganda National Traders Alliance (UNATA on key challenges affecting businesses, including taxation, counterfeit goods, trade order, and access to affordable finance.

The traders, led by UNATA President Godfrey Katongole, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to present their concerns, proposals and aspirations aimed at strengthening cooperation between Government and the business community.

Minister Mulondo assured the traders that their concerns would be considered and pledged further engagement to identify practical solutions to the challenges affecting their businesses.

Katongole called for increased taxpayer education and regular engagement between tax authorities and traders to improve compliance and reduce disputes. He also raised concerns over inconsistencies in tax assessments, urging more transparency, clarity, and fairness in the process.

The traders further highlighted the high cost of commercial loans, warning that limited access to affordable financing could force many businesses to rely on informal lenders.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continued Government–private sector dialogue in improving the trading environment, strengthening tax compliance, and supporting sustainable business growth.
