Ugandan singer Evelyn Mic has clarified her remarks about singer Irene Ntale’s fertility struggles, insisting that her comments were driven by concern rather than an intention to ridicule or blame women experiencing difficulties having children
In her statement, Evelyn said she sympathises with Ntale and other women facing similar challenges, revealing that the issue is also close to her heart as someone who is yet to have a child.
She explained that her concern was about the dangers of sharing vulnerable moments online, where personal struggles can be turned into memes, jokes, and viral content by people who may lack empathy.
Evelyn acknowledged that her tone may have been misunderstood but urged the public to distinguish between how a message is delivered and the intention behind it.
She also raised questions about the pressure society places on women to explain why they have not had children, suggesting that Ntale may have spoken publicly because she was tired of constant questions about when she would give birth.
Evelyn argued that the focus should not be on why Ntale chose to open up, but on why women are repeatedly pressured to justify their reproductive journeys.
She concluded by calling for greater compassion towards women facing fertility struggles and cautioning people against misrepresenting others’ words online.
