Two suspects linked to attack on Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja arrested

The UPDF called on Ugandans and residents of Jinja 'to remain calm as these acts of criminality shall be dealt with decisively like we have dealt with many others before.'

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in conjunction with police reveals that ”two suspects have so far been arrested and have leads to apprehend the entire group’ linked to Thursday night attack on Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja, eastern Uganda.

Gunmen attacked a Gadaffi Barracks quarter guard last night and left one soldier dead and made off with two SMG guns.

“Last evening, an attack occurred on our soldiers guarding Ambercourt road close to Gadaffi barracks at 2050hrs leading to the death by strangling and shooting of RA/110575 Sgt Eyangu Simon Peter, a UPDF soldier attached to Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja Contonment while his colleague had gone to buy some drink,” UPDF spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, said.

Sgt Eyangu was deployed together with L/Cpl Kibirige Norico to guard a small gate of Ambercourt road, within the perimeter of Gadaffi Barracks.
