Accident kills Kyalingoza’s son who has been serving as LC V Chairperson for Kikuube district

While eugolising the deceased, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja described him as a young man deeply committed to leadership and service.

The Police in the Albertine South Region, are investigating a fatal road crash that occured on 4th January 2026 which claimed the life Kikuube District LC5 Chairperson Banura Peter.

According the the Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, Banura who was the son to Uganda’s Ambassador to Burundi, Maj Gen (Rtd) Matia Kyaligonza, died after he was reportedly knocked down by a speeding Toyota Hiace vehicle commonly known as a drone at Butyamba Village (Butyamba IDP area) in Kikuube Town Council.

“He was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead” he said.

Kituuma revealed that the driver of the Toyota Hiace fled the scene immediately after the crash.

“However, the vehicle has since been recovered and impounded by police” he said.

Kituuma noted that efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest the driver to assist with the ongoing investigations.

While eugolising the deceased, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja described him as a young man deeply committed to leadership and service.

“As the pioneer LCV Chairperson of Kikuube, he was dedicated to the progress of the district and the wellbeing of its people. We have lost a very humble man who still had much life ahead of him” she said.

State minister for gender, labour, and social development Balaam Barugahara described him as a humble, peaceful, and deeply patriotic Ugandan.

“This is a profound loss to his family, the Obukama bwa Bunyoro Kitara, and Uganda as a whole” he said.

Balaam further appealed to all motorists especially drivers to be mindful of other road users.
