Bank of Uganda gets new governor

Atingi-Ego started career at the BoU in August 1984, advancing to the position of Executive Director of Research. He was appointed deputy governor by Museveni in 2020.

Michael Atingi-Ego has been appointed full governor of Bank of Uganda and will now be deputized by Augustus Nuwagaba. Atingi-Ego now fully replaces the late Emmanuel Tumusiime – Mutebile who died in Januaury 2022 who he deputized.

The appointment of Atingi-Ego as governor brings an end to the longest search for the central bank governor by President Yoweri Museveni who is the appointing authority.

Atingi-Ego started career at the BoU in August 1984, advancing to the position of Executive Director of Research. He was appointed deputy governor by Museveni in 2020.  Before that, he had worked as Executive Director of the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI) from September 2018.
