BREAKING: Balimwezo officially takes office at City Hall after swearing-in ceremony

The handover signifies the end of the previous administrative era under former Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who had shaped the city’s political landscape for years, and ushers in a new five-year term under Balimwezo.

Engineer Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo has officially assumed office as Kampala Lord Mayor following a swearing-in ceremony held today at City Hall.

The ceremony was presided over by senior officials of the Kampala Capital City Authority, where the Executive Director formally declared him the duly sworn Lord Mayor and handed over the Lord Mayor’s seal and other instruments of authority, marking the official transfer of power.

The event, held at the heart of the capital, attracted political leaders, KCCA officials, and supporters who gathered to witness the leadership transition in Kampala’s top political office.

The handover signifies the end of the previous administrative era under former Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who had shaped the city’s political landscape for years, and ushers in a new five-year term under Balimwezo.

Speaking briefly after taking the oath, Balimwezo pledged to prioritize urban mobility, drainage systems, and improved service delivery, saying Kampala requires “urgent and practical solutions” to its growing city challenges.

Security remained tight around City Hall as proceedings concluded, with celebratory scenes outside following the official announcement.

Balimwezo is expected to convene his first executive engagements in the coming days to set out his immediate governance agenda for the capital.
