FDC Candidate Arrested After Kicking Ballot Box In Chaotic Busongora By-election
Baguma, according to the EC, was arrested by police for disrupting voting and damaging election material, however, FDC said he was arrested by Uganda people’s Defence Forces (UPDF) who are holding him at a yet-to-be-known place.
The Electoral Commission (EC) says voting has resumed at Katunguru Primary School polling station in Katunguru Parish, Busongora in Kasese district after an interruption caused by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Kighema A. Baguma kicking and shattering the ballot box.

Baguma, according to the EC, was arrested by police for disrupting voting and damaging election material, however, FDC said he was arrested by Uganda people’s Defence Forces (UPDF) who are holding him at a yet-to-be-known place.
The men in uniform were ticking ballots despite not being registered voters, FDC said. “Our candidate has been arrested in Katunguru as he went to stop the UPDF soldiers from voting,” the FDC posted on their socials.

The opposition party also said journalists who had recorded the unfortunate event at Katunguru were forced to delete pictures, videos and audio recordings at gunpoint.
The Busongora by-election race has six candidates. This is after the withdrawal of Munezero, an independent candidate. The six candidates are Mbaju Jackson, Businge Bernadette, Kighema Alosious Baguma, Zagiire Doreen, Mujungu Thembo Gideon and Mulindwa David Isimbwa.
Meanwhile, the EC is also conducting Local Govt Councils by-elections in 51 elective positions vacant in various Local Government Councils in 22 districts/cities across the country.
