MPs move to censure Karamoja minister iron sheets scandal
The MPs cite abuse of officer or willful violation of the oath of allegation or the oath of office and mismanagement of her office.
Members of Parliament have today written to the Clerk to Parliament notifying him of their intentions to censure the minister for Karamoja Affairs, Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu as provided for in rule 109 of the rules of procedure of Parliament of Uganda.
“Article 118 of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda provides grounds under which a minister can be censured and we wish to draw your attention to the following grounds for which we seek to censure the Minister for Karamoja Affairs,” the MPs write in the letter drafted on 22nd February 2022.
The MPs cite abuse of office or willful violation of the oath of allegation or the oath of office and mismanagement of her office.
“The Minister of Karamoja Affairs has failed to deliver iron sheets and other supplies meant for Karamoja to support the ongoing disarmament exercise. The supplies were financed through the supplementary budget that Parliament passed in December 2021,” the MPs say.
The MPs have taken this action because the diversion of some of the items to non-intended beneficiaries deprives the intended beneficiaries of Karamoja.
The letter was signed off by Lochap Peter Ken (Bokora MP), Aleper Moses (Chekwii County MP), Nakuti Faith Loru (Napak District Woman MP), Baatom Ben Koryang (Dodoth West MP), Ochero Jimbricky Noman (Labwor County MP), Ngoya John Bosco (Bokora County MP) and Lokwang Philiphs Ilukol (Napore West MP).
