NFA forges key alliances for enhanced forest management and climate action

These collaborations aim to enhance forest protection, promote transparency, and empower communities in conservation initiatives across the nation.

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) of Uganda is significantly bolstering its efforts towards sustainable forest management and climate justice by renewing a critical partnership with the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE) and forging a new alliance with the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU).

These collaborations aim to enhance forest protection, promote transparency, and empower communities in conservation initiatives across the nation.

The renewed partnership between NFA and ACODE is set to strengthen good governance and policy advocacy within Uganda’s vital forestry sector. Mr. Stuart Maniraguha, Acting Executive Director of the NFA, underscored the importance of this multi-stakeholder collaboration.

“Our partnership is key to empowering local communities and ensuring the sustainable use of forest resources,” Mr. Maniraguha stated. “We welcome ACODE’s continued support in promoting governance and policy advocacy in the forestry sector.”

Dr. Arthur Bainomugisha, Executive Director of ACODE, highlighted the crucial role of institutional accountability and active citizen participation in the effective management of natural resources. “We are committed to supporting NFA in areas of policy research, environmental justice, and community awareness,” Dr. Bainomugisha affirmed, emphasizing ACODE’s dedication to these principles.

In a separate but equally impactful development, NFA has joined forces with the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), led by Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kaziimba, to spearhead a massive tree-planting drive and promote broader environmental stewardship.

The IRCU has unveiled an ambitious plan to plant 250 million trees across Uganda over the next 15 years. This monumental initiative will commence in schools, places of worship, and community lands, leveraging the extensive networks of faith-based organizations.

The NFA will provide essential technical support and awareness campaigns to facilitate this ambitious goal, with both organizations aiming to transform faith centers into vibrant hubs for climate action nationwide.
