ONC Coordinator urges Buyende voters to elect leaders of integrity ahead of LC elections
Baluye further urged voters to support candidates who can foster unity, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for Buyende District, Baluye Michael Waiswa, has appealed to voters to elect credible and development-oriented leaders as communities prepare for the upcoming Local Council I (LC I), Local Council II (LC II) and Women Council elections.
In a statement issued ahead of the grassroots polls, Baluye said the quality of leadership elected at the village level would determine the pace of community development and service delivery.
He urged residents to make informed choices by voting for leaders who possess integrity, accountability and a commitment to serving the interests of all community members.
“As communities prepare to elect their LC I, LC II and Women Council leaders, I urge all voters to choose individuals of integrity and good character,” Baluye said.
He emphasized that grassroots leaders should be committed to improving livelihoods by championing development initiatives that address the needs of their communities.
According to Baluye, those seeking leadership positions should demonstrate a willingness to serve all residents without discrimination while promoting transparency and accountability in the execution of their responsibilities.
He also called for the election of leaders who uphold zero tolerance for corruption, saying integrity in public office is essential for building trust between leaders and the communities they serve.
“Let us elect leaders who will put the interests of the people first and work tirelessly for the progress of our communities,” he said.

He noted that effective local leadership plays a critical role in mobilizing communities for government programmes, resolving disputes and promoting citizen participation in development.
“Good leadership begins with informed choices at the grassroots,” Baluye added.
His remarks come as the Electoral Commission continues the compilation of the Village (LC I) Voters’ Register and Village Women Council Register in preparation for the forthcoming Local Council and Women Council elections.
The grassroots elections are expected to usher in new village and parish leaders who will oversee local governance and serve as the first point of contact between communities and government institutions.
