More than 1,000 households in Kisinda Sub-county, Kaliro District, have been without electricity for the past six months, prompting residents and local leaders to appeal to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) to restore power and address what they describe as a growing public safety risk.

Residents, led by Kisinda Sub-county District Councillor David Lukakamwa, said the prolonged blackout has affected the entire sub-county, including Lubuulo Village, disrupting businesses, household activities and access to essential services.

Lukakamwa said residents have repeatedly reported the matter to the relevant authorities, but no action has been taken to restore electricity.

“For over six months now, Kisinda Sub-county and villages like Lubuulo have been in total darkness. We have reported the matter, but those responsible have not addressed the issue,” he said.

Beyond the power outage, Lukakamwa raised concerns over a transformer in the area that he said has exposed live wires, posing a serious danger to residents.

“These naked wires spark every day, putting people’s lives at risk. We need UEDCL to come and fix this urgently before a tragedy occurs,” he added.

Residents say the blackout has affected businesses that rely on electricity and forced many households to depend on costly alternative sources of lighting. They also fear that the exposed electrical infrastructure could lead to electrocution or fire if left unattended.

They have appealed to UEDCL to urgently restore electricity to the affected communities and repair the damaged transformer to prevent possible accidents.

Efforts to obtain a comment from officials at the UEDCL Iganga branch were unsuccessful, as they said they were not in a position to comment on the matter by press time.
