Petitioners want Pope to investigate Anita Among’s Holy Communion

Twelve petitioners say Anita Among is a third wife to a Muslim man, Moses Magogo, the Member of Parliament for Budiope East in Buyende district.

Catholics in Uganda want the Papal Nuncio to prevail over Ugandan Catholic leaders who continue to give Speaker Anita Annet Among Holy Communion yet she doesn’t qualify.

Twelve petitioners say Anita Among is a third wife to a Muslim man, Moses Magogo, the Member of Parliament for Budiope East in Buyende district, Busoga sub-region.

The petitioners also reason that Anita Among’s name often surfaced in scandalous situations including alleged corruption, human rights abuse and land fights.

“There is a need for a reconciliation of how a catholic being a third wife of a Muslim man can continue purporting to be fully prepared for catholic communion,” the petitioners said.

The petitioners also want church leaders to reject cash donations from the Speaker.

The petition dated February 9 was sent through Uganda’s leading Catholic leaders including Bishop Anthony Zziwa, the Chairperson Catholic Episcopal Conference, the Archbishop of Kampala Paul Semwogerere and Soroti Catholic Diocese Rt Rev Bishop Joseph Eciru.

“Catholics are universally taught through the catechism about the holy sacraments taken upon fulfilling certain conditions. Speaker Among has been shown on TV and on social media partaking during holy mass,”

Catholics across the country have been left shocked on seeing Annet Among receiving Holy Communion.

“There is fear that because Anita Among walks about with huge amounts of cash, perhaps she could be buying her way to the holy altar of Communion,” the petition reads.

The Petitioners asked the Holy See to investigate all Bishops and Priests who have offered Holy Communion to Anita Among in order to establish whether this has been an act of ignorance or one induced by bribery.

Parliament spokesperson, Chris Obore, has described some allegations in the petition as propaganda laced with malice, bitterness and hate.

Obore said the land Anita Among owns either she inherited it from her wealth father (deceased) or she bought with her own money.

She has never grabbed any land, Obore stated, explaining that Anita Among doesn’t know where a place called Amujeju is located in Bukedea even though people there vote for her.

On the issues of the Speakers Catholicism and receiving Holy Communion, Obore said Anita Among has never quit her Catholic religion even after getting married to a Moslem man.

“Her marriage to a Muslim man is a personal choice which hasn’t changed her devotion to her Catholic faith,” Obore said.
