Police warn against mob justice
According to Police, they are investigating a wider racket behind the gay propagators who use money sourced from funders abroad to lure school children and vulnerable communities.
On 30, July 2021, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga issued a statement warning residents against the increasing spate of mob justice. This followed the battery of two men at a funeral over suspicion of practicing homosexuality.
Police reveal that the incident happened at Kasengejje village, Wakiso district, 30 kilometers from Kampala, when two men, Sempijja Manisuli and Yasin were attacked by a mob at the burial of a suspected gay sympathizer and recruiter, Wilberforce Ssemwanga.
Enanga says that following reports of secret gay recruitment concerned residents, some basing on a witch hunt or misinformation have vowed to eliminate queers.
It is suspected that Wilberforce Ssemwanga was poisoned, by the same people, although by press time, a police post-mortem report hadn’t been released.
Nabuuma Zainab a sister to Sempijja says she doesn’t know the whereabouts of her brother.
“Residents who referred to themselves as the anti-gay mob demanded that we produce him. They have threatened to kill us. I don’t know where Sempijja is. He has cut off all communication. We don’t know whether he is dead or alive,” she said.
According to the Police, they are investigating a wider racket behind the gay propagators who use money sourced from funders abroad to lure school children and vulnerable communities. Many youth have fallen prey to these poachers” he reveals.
