UGX 1.5 Billion water treatment plant commissioned at Nakivale Refugee Settlement
The facility, constructed by the Uganda Red Cross Society with support from the Austrian Red Cross and the Austrian Development Agency, increases water availability to 7 litres per person per day.
A UGX 1.5 billion Misyera Water Treatment Plant has been commissioned at Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District to improve access to clean water for refugees and surrounding host communities.
The facility, constructed by the Uganda Red Cross Society with support from the Austrian Red Cross and the Austrian Development Agency, increases water availability to 7 litres per person per day.
The project also incorporates hygiene promotion, gender inclusion, and livelihood support initiatives, including the distribution of seeds and seedlings to communities.
Officials said the initiative supports Uganda’s development priorities under National Development Plan IV (NDP IV) and contributes to Sustainable Development Goals on poverty reduction, clean water access, and reducing inequalities.
The government commended the Uganda Red Cross Society, UNHCR, and development partners for supporting sustainable solutions and called on communities to protect the water facility for long-term benefit.
