URA harvests smugglers in Jinja, Namayingo

Another vehicle, a Toyota Corona aka ' Toyota Kibina' Reg UAH 359 J was found loaded with smuggled basmati rice. 1,075 kgs of Basmati were recovered.

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) teams in Jinja and Namayingo hunted well and harvested several smugglers sneaking around with rice and textiles respectively.

In Namayingo, the URA Custom Enforcement team uncovered and foiled a meticulous smuggling ploy that involved the concealment of textile fabrics in their thousands of square meters under barley.

“To seal the ruse, the smugglers moved with legitimate customs documents declaring barley. Unbeknownst to them, the intelligence team had already picked up on the ‘aroma’ of the contraband from miles away due to deep CI sourcing,” URA said.

The tax collectors waylaid the smuggler at Musita Township in Mayuge and intercepted the vehicle. “Thorough verification revealed 5,118 square meters of Polyester Fabrics,” URA revealed.

In Jinja, at a checkpoint staged just next to the Jinja Police Barracks, URA nabbed a smuggler transporting football jerseys in vehicle Reg No. UAU199Z.

Another vehicle, a Toyota Corona aka ‘ Toyota Kibina’ Reg UAH 359 J was found loaded with smuggled basmati rice.  1,075 kgs of Basmati were recovered.

Both were delivered to Jinja Customs for management.
