Ethiopia Refutes Reports Of Suspected Monkeypox Cases

The Ethiopian government on Sunday said it had not yet registered a monkeypox case, and refuted reports suggesting suspected cases of the disease in the East African country.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health, in a statement issued Sunday, said there are no infected cases of monkeypox in the country despite reports alleging that people have been isolated and quarantined in Ethiopia suspected of monkeypox.

“Although the disease has spread to other countries, we would like to inform you that no one has been infected or isolated in our country so far,” the statement read. While calling on the public to follow regular updates by concerned government institutions, the ministry warned media outlets “to refrain from disseminating such unconfirmed and unreliable information.”
