Veteran political commentator Tamale Mirundi dies at 60
Mirundi had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kisubi Hospital for about a month. In recent weeks, doctors had been draining fluid from his lungs, but his condition worsened on Tuesday night when blood was discovered in his lungs. He was pronounced dead around 11:45 p.m.
Former Presidential Press Secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent figure in Ugandan politics and media, has passed away at the age of 60.
Mirundi, known for his outspoken commentary, died on Tuesday night at Kisubi Hospital, located off Entebbe Road, as confirmed by his family.
“The family of Joseph Tamale Mirundi, Senior Presidential Advisor on Media and former Presidential Press Secretary, has our deepest condolences during this challenging time,” expressed the Minister for Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Region in a statement on X. “His passing marks a significant loss, and his contributions to media and public service will be remembered and honored.”

Born in 1964 in Rakai District, Tamale Mirundi attended Lubiri Secondary School. He held a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Communication, marking a long and distinguished career in both media and public service.
His passing leaves a void in the Ugandan media and political landscape, where his voice was both influential and controversial.
