NRM embarks on digital membership drive ahead of 2026 elections
Kigongo emphasized the importance of integrity in the process, cautioning against tampering with the exercise by soliciting bribes or making irregular entries.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has launched a nationwide digitalization exercise for its membership register as part of preparations for upcoming internal polls and the 2026 general elections.
The initiative was officially unveiled on Thursday by the party’s 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, during a training session for data center supervisors at the NRM Secretariat in Nakasero, Kampala.
Kigongo emphasized the importance of integrity in the process, cautioning against tampering with the exercise by soliciting bribes or making irregular entries.
“The party will rely on your work to ensure we achieve a clean and credible membership and voters’ register,” Kigongo said.
NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong outlined key objectives of the exercise, which include removing names of deceased members, those who have relocated, or defected to other parties, and registering new members joining the NRM.
“This exercise requires diligence to ensure no eligible member is left out,” Todwong urged the trainees, emphasizing the critical role of the updated register in ensuring credible elections.
Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale, the party’s Director of Finance and Administration, highlighted the benefits of a clean register in preventing disputes during party primaries.
“An updated register will save us from the chaos and bickering among members, which we’ve seen in some isolated cases during past primaries,” Ojale remarked.
The digitalization drive is expected to streamline internal processes and enhance the party’s preparedness for the 2026 elections.
The launch was attended by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) and senior officials from the NRM Secretariat, signaling the party’s commitment to modernizing its operations and maintaining its political stronghold.
This exercise marks a significant step toward improving internal democracy and ensuring transparency in NRM’s electoral processes.
