National Secretariat urges women to participate peacefully in ongoing Council elections
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Executive Secretary Osborn Turyasingura urged eligible women to turn up in large numbers, vote responsibly, and maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
The National secretariat for special interest Groups has called on women across Uganda to actively participate in the ongoing National Women’s Council elections, describing the exercise as a key pillar of grassroots democracy and women’s empowerment.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Executive Secretary Osborn Turyasingura urged eligible women to turn up in large numbers, vote responsibly, and maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
Turyasingura said the elections provide women with an opportunity to choose leaders who will advocate for their rights, address community concerns, and contribute to national development.
He also appealed to candidates to uphold integrity, respect, and fair competition, noting that leadership should be based on service and accountability.
The Secretariat commended the Electoral Commission, local leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders for supporting a peaceful and credible election process.
It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the National Women’s Council and promoting women’s participation in governance and decision-making at all levels.
