The National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has appointed Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as the acting Deputy President for Buganda region.

Kivumbi, the Chairperson of the Buganda Caucus in Parliament and MP for Butambala County, replaces MP Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe), who was suspended last year over allegations related to the controversial Shs500 million service award during his tenure as Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

In his acceptance remarks, Kivumbi pledged to focus on mentoring young people and advancing the party’s mission. “As Deputy President for Buganda, I will reach where Kyagulanyi can’t and be where he can’t,” he affirmed.

During the same event, Bobi Wine also introduced Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba as Deputy President for Western Uganda, succeeding the late Jolly Mugisha.

Harriet Ageno was appointed as Secretary for Policy, replacing the late Toret Akecha. Rev. Dr. Ben Byamugisha Butumbwire was named Secretary for the Elderly, while Benjamin Katana was assigned as NUP’s representative on the National Consultative Forum.

Julius Maganda took on the role of Secretary for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and Mr. Bwambale was named Secretary for Youth in the Western Region.

Bobi Wine emphasized that these appointments are temporary, with all leaders serving in an acting capacity until June 2025, when the party plans to hold a delegates’ conference.

“Today, the National Executive Committee of the @NUP_Ug took yet another significant step and approved the appointment of various leaders in acting capacity until the Delegates’ Conference. I congratulated these leaders, charged them to remain true to the values of our liberation struggle, and tasked them to work hard to advance the cause,” Bobi Wine shared via the social media platform X.
