NUP raises alarm over reported abduction of musician King Zale

Concerns about his whereabouts intensified after Dax Vibez, a fellow musician and brother to Bobi Wine, posted on social media early Wednesday, confirming the reports and stating that King Zale’s location remains unknown.

Uganda’s opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has raised concern over the reported abduction of local artist King Zale, alleging a pattern of growing lawlessness.

In a statement, the party’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, said they had received information that the singer, whose real name is Christopher Godi, was violently taken by armed men in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb.

According to accounts from eyewitnesses cited by the party, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when unidentified armed men, reportedly traveling in a vehicle commonly referred to as a “drone,” surrounded King Zale’s car. He was allegedly ordered out at gunpoint and forced into the vehicle, which then drove off to an unknown destination.

The artist is said to have previously been seen among the security detail of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine.

Concerns about his whereabouts intensified after Dax Vibez, a fellow musician and brother to Bobi Wine, posted on social media early Wednesday, confirming the reports and stating that King Zale’s location remains unknown.

By press time, there had been no official statement from security agencies regarding the alleged arrest or abduction.

The incident adds to a series of similar claims by opposition figures and activists, who have repeatedly accused security operatives of using unmarked vehicles to detain individuals. Authorities have in the past denied allegations of unlawful arrests, maintaining that all operations are conducted within the law.

The situation remains fluid, with calls from NUP and supporters for clarity on King Zale’s status and immediate disclosure of his whereabouts.
