In a rare show of appreciation, hundreds of voters from Kakumiro District have presented livestock and other gifts to the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, to congratulate him on his recent elevation from State Minister to Cabinet Minister.

The delegation, comprising more than 200 residents from Kakindo Sub-county in Bugangaizi West Constituency, delivered the gifts to the minister’s home on Tuesday. The items included 35 cows, 41 goats, numerous chickens, and bunches of bananas.

The residents said the gifts were a token of gratitude for Byamukama’s efforts in transforming the socio-economic welfare of the community and for his promotion to a full cabinet position.

Speaking during the event, Rev. Fr. Edward Mukwaya, the Parish Priest of Kakindo Catholic Parish, praised the minister for his contribution to both infrastructure development and agricultural transformation in the area.

“Hon. Byamukama has done commendable work not only in improving roads but also in promoting modern agriculture through his four-acre model demonstration farm, which has inspired many farmers in the community,” Fr. Mukwaya said.

Kibaale District Woman Member of Parliament, Annet Nabaduka, who paid a courtesy visit during the celebrations, thanked President Yoweri Museveni for appointing leaders from the Bunyoro sub-region to key government positions.

“We appreciate the President for entrusting Bunyoro with cabinet-level representation, particularly in the Ministry of Works and Transport, alongside other ministerial appointments,” Nabaduka said.

During the gathering, Kakumiro District LC5 Chairperson Joseph Ssentayi appealed to the Ministry of Works and Transport to take over the management and rehabilitation of several deteriorating feeder roads in the district.

The roads include Kitawondwa–Mpasana, Kikoona–Mwitanzige–Kisita-Katikara, Kiweeza–Rusolera–Kakindo, Rusambya–Kikoora, and Kiwumulo–Nyabarogo–Kisenge.

Ssentayi also requested the minister to remind President Museveni about his pledge to tarmac the Nalweyo–Kisiita–Nkoko–Ntwete road, which residents say would greatly boost connectivity and trade in the area.

In his remarks, Byamukama thanked the residents for the overwhelming gesture and pledged to continue serving the people diligently.

“I am humbled by your appreciation. This demonstrates that when leaders work for the people, the people recognize and value those efforts,” he said.

The minister urged all leaders to prioritize service delivery and support government efforts aimed at lifting communities out of poverty.

Responding to concerns about road infrastructure, Byamukama assured residents that he would closely supervise community road projects to ensure accountability and value for money.

“It is my responsibility to ensure that resources allocated to road works benefit the people and are not mismanaged. We shall strengthen supervision to guarantee quality service delivery,” he said.

The celebrations ended with the formal presentation of the livestock and other gifts, underscoring the strong support Byamukama continues to enjoy among constituents in Bugangaizi West and the wider Kakumiro District.
