Journalists in Namutumba to celebrate Press Freedom Day on 7th August
During the meeting, Joseph Sooka retained his position as Chairman, and Kalulu Simon retained his position as Secretary/Treasurer.
Journalists in Namutumba, under the umbrella of the Namutumba Journalists Association [NAJA], are set to celebrate Press Freedom Day on 7th August, 2026.
The function will be presided over by Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, Member of Parliament for Bukono Constituency in this district, who is also the State Minister for Housing.
In a meeting held today at Phenomenal Resort in Namutumba Town Council in this district, the journalists under the Namutumba Journalists Association [NAJA] unanimously agreed to celebrate the day.
During the meeting, Joseph Sooka retained his position as Chairman, and Kalulu Simon retained his position as Secretary/Treasurer.

Joseph Sooka, the Chairperson, has stated that many activities will be conducted in line with this year’s theme. He urged the public to join them during these activities and on the celebration day.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated annually on 3rd May.
The theme for World Press Freedom Day is “Shaping a Future at Peace.”
This year’s observance focuses on the essential role of independent journalism in promoting human rights, democratic governance, and stable societies amid complex global challenges.
Additionally, he stated that this day is a day of reflection on the services we have delivered to the community, a look to the future, and an opportunity to energize ourselves through the difficulties we sometimes go through in the course of our service.
Kalulu Simon, the Treasurer, has rallied all leaders at all levels to join them and support them as they prepare for the celebration.
