Bishop Wakula backs Museveni’s decision to reappoint Namuganza as housing minister
Wakula also praised the minister for consistently supporting church activities and offered prayers for wisdom, divine guidance and favour as she begins another term in Cabinet.
The Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula, has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for reappointing Bukono County MP Princess Persis Namuganza as State Minister for Housing, describing the decision as well deserved and a recognition of her commitment to both public service and the church.
Speaking during his farewell pastoral tour at St. Michael’s Church, Namutumba Archdeaconry, Bishop Wakula said Namuganza’s third consecutive ministerial appointment should not be taken for granted, noting that President Museveni had entrusted her with ministerial responsibilities throughout her three terms in Parliament.
“Therefore, this opportunity cannot be taken for granted. We have to commend the President,” Bishop Wakula said.
The bishop described Namuganza as a God-fearing leader, an active member of the Mothers’ Union, and a devoted Christian who continues to participate fully in church services despite her demanding government responsibilities.
“She is hardworking. Although she is a minister, she still comes to church for service. She means business and upholds all the values of the church. Where it requires kneeling, she does so automatically. Such a person deserves God’s blessings,” he said.
Wakula also praised the minister for consistently supporting church activities and offered prayers for wisdom, divine guidance and favour as she begins another term in Cabinet.
“We pray that she remains Spirit-filled, divinely inspired and God-motivated. May God pour favour upon you in the hands of the appointing authority, favour in the ministry and favour as you serve the church,” he prayed.
Namuganza paid tribute to the outgoing bishop, describing his leadership as transformative and saying the diocese would greatly miss him after his retirement.
“He has served the Diocese exceptionally well and inspired and united many Christians. We shall miss him after he retires,” she said.
Responding to the bishop’s appeal for support towards roofing the diocesan cathedral, Namuganza pledged to mobilise government support.
“I want to assure him that I will remain with President H.E. Yoweri in this new financial year so that he can contribute,” she said.
The minister also responded to critics of her relationship with the church, saying her Christian upbringing shaped her values.
“I grew up in church, and I pity those who try to tamper with us without knowing our background in church,” she said.
The Sabadecone of Namutumba Archdeaconry, Ven. Rev. Can. Mose Mugoolo, said Bishop Wakula was visiting all archdeaconries in Central Busoga Diocese as part of his farewell programme before retirement.
During the visit, the bishop laid the foundation stone for the Sabadecone’s residence, confirmed 30 children into the Anglican faith and delivered a sermon encouraging Christians to remain steadfast in their faith.
The event was also attended by officials from the Office of the Resident District Commissioner. Representing the RDC, Assistant RDC Richard Musana cautioned families against reclaiming land that had been donated by their grandparents for churches, schools and other public institutions.
He also urged residents to maintain peace during the upcoming Local Council I elections scheduled for July 28, 2026, and called on voters to follow guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission and security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
