Gen. Saleh urges investors to harness idle machine-making facility as Uganda pursues local tractor manufacturing
The National Enterprise Corporation that was represented by Gen. Innocent Oula said it would fully support Farasi with spare parts making, as need may arise, as well as using the said tractors on its vast farms.
The Chief Coordinator Operation wealth creation Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh) has called on industrialists, as well as local and international investors in Uganda, to pick interest in the machine making machine, that lies idle in the Namanve industrial park, awaiting us.
“The President brought in a machine making machine, that can make any machines and spare parts, at the request of the industrial sector, many years ago but the machine has been laying idle in Namanve industrial park”. Gen. Saleh made these marks at the signing of memorandum of recognition between the tripartite Farasi, (Tractor brand) The Grain Council of Uganda (TGCU) and Operation Wealth Creation(OWC) at The Kirema Heritage branch of the Gen. Akandwanaho School of Research, recently commissioned in Kyankwanzi, by the President.
General Saleh made it clear, that the signing of this MOU was not to give a monopoly to Farasi tractors, since OWC has many other MOUs with other tractor dealers, but a sign of commitment to help Farasi which seeks to build a tractor with 85% of the local materials sourced from Uganda.
Farasi a local initiative under FARASI Agricultural Company Limited, has taken many years to be activated is and, it’s aimed at building an indigenous locally tailored tractor, that if achieved as proposed, will create not only skills, but employment as well to the locals.
The General cautioned the company about the need for putting up regional service centres, that does not only to look at only spare parts, but the entire chain of agro inputs.

The function was witnessed by the Deputy Governor Bank Uganda Prof. Nuwagaba, The Commissioner General of Prisons, the IGP, Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs officials and many other government departments.
