Grandmother who murdered her grandchildren arrested by police
Police have called the incident barbaric and are now on the search for the husband Katwiremunda Silapio who is at large.
The territorial police in Rwizi region, Kiruhura district, arrested Tumukiriza Mable for the alleged murder of her two grandchildren. The granny accused the parents of the two toddlers of mistreating her.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Tumukiriza had a misunderstanding with her two sons on the 11th of January 2023 which prompted her to call a third son who is a businessman in the same village and told him she was contemplating suicide.
“When the sons responded, they found her missing from her residence with the two grandchildren. When they tried reaching out to her, she told them they are not going to find her,” he added.
Upon such information, police noted that a search was mounted and led to the discovery of the first body dumped in one of the valley dams, located almost 1.5 kilometres from the suspect’s home.
The second body was found in another valley dam 300 meters away from their residence.
