MPs task ministry to prioritize budgetary needs of police

Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Committee of Defense want the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prioritize the budgetary needs of the Uganda Police Force to enable the Force to carry out its mandate.

Theodore Sekikubo said that allocating Shs823 billion against the required Shs2 trillion for Financial Year (FY) 2023/2024 is unacceptable.

Senior Police officers were appearing before the Committee to present the Force’s budget framework paper. The Deputy IGP, Godfrey Katsigazi, told the MPs that the Force is constrained in terms of manpower, saying that the citizen-to-police ratio is 1-800 compared to the ideal 1-500.
