All six Bank of Uganda laptops recovered as police close in on break-in syndicate

Authorities say inquiries are ongoing to establish whether the suspects were part of a wider network targeting institutional offices in Kampala.

Police have recovered all six laptops stolen from the Bank of Uganda headquarters along Kampala Road, following a coordinated investigation that has led to the arrest of four suspects in connection with the break-in.

The theft occurred on the night of 3 May 2026 when unknown individuals reportedly forced entry into the central bank offices and stole six laptops used in administrative operations.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the investigation initially led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two laptops. Further intelligence-driven operations later resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects, as well as the recovery of the remaining four devices, bringing the total number of recovered laptops to six.

The suspects in custody include Kule Boaz Micheal, Kabuya Ramathan alias Rama, Lubangakene Isaac Izoo, and Oedo Jorem Jude.

Police say the recovered laptops are now secured as exhibits as investigators finalize case files ahead of prosecution.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on 20 May 2026, where they will face charges of office breaking, theft, receiving stolen property, and retaining stolen property.
