With Morocco preparing to host the tournament for a second consecutive edition, expectations are high that the 2026 event will further strengthen the momentum of women’s football in Africa.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially rescheduled the 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), moving the tournament from its initially planned March–April window to 25 July – 16 August 2026.
CAF had previously awarded hosting rights for the competition to Morocco in October 2024, with the tournament originally scheduled to take place from 17 March to 3 April 2026.
According to CAF, the decision to adjust the dates followed consultations with key stakeholders, including FIFA and other partners involved in the organisation of the tournament.
The continental football body explained that the revised schedule will help ensure the successful delivery of the competition, citing the need to address unforeseen circumstances affecting the original timetable.
Preparations for the tournament are already underway, with CAF expressing confidence that the event will be successfully staged when it takes place in mid-2026. The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is Africa’s premier women’s football competition and continues to play a key role in the development and visibility of women’s football across the continent.
